Simpler Laws • Stronger Compliance • Greater Trust
The new Income-tax Act, 2025 restructures provisions into a more logical, reader-friendly format, removes redundant clauses, replaces excessive provisos/explanations with clear sub-sections, and introduces the single “Tax Year” concept to eliminate confusion between Previous Year and Assessment Year.
While repealing the 1961 Act, it preserves all past rights, liabilities, proceedings, losses, and credits through strong “savings” provisions, ensuring no disruption to ongoing assessments, litigation, or taxpayer entitlements.
The framework emphasizes digital compliance through e-filing, pre-filled data, AIS integration, smart forms, automated validation, and AI-based data analysis, reducing human interface and enhancing accuracy and efficiency.
It adopts a “trust first, scrutinise later” philosophy, promoting voluntary compliance, non-intrusive assessments, and empathetic enforcement while maintaining strong data-backed verification mechanisms.
By simplifying legal language, standardizing forms, minimizing ambiguity, and providing structured data capture, the Act aims to significantly reduce disputes and technical rejections.
Related provisions are grouped into single chapters (e.g., TDS, salary, exemptions), cross-referencing is simplified, and scattered provisions are consolidated to improve usability.
Introduction of revised forms, merged forms, pre-filled data flows, and standardized reporting reduces duplication and compliance burden for taxpayers.
Consolidation of presumptive taxation for non-residents, tabulated rates, simplified APA timelines, and revamped transfer pricing forms improve certainty and reduce compliance complexity.
The Act is built on inputs from taxpayers, professionals, industry bodies, and public consultations, ensuring practical applicability and inclusiveness.
By improving predictability, reducing compliance cost, enabling faster processing, and providing educational outreach (FAQs, brochures, chatbot support), the Act aligns taxation with economic growth and global standards.
